When a photographer takes a picture he/she doesn't want things competing for your eye so he simplifies the background, we should learn to do that when keyboard and piano players always seem to be looking for the phattest chord. And trust me all yall advanced musician know what I mean.
But sometimes we should look for a stripped down chord.
Check this out ....
D/FGCE
G/FABBEb
C/EABD
This is nice and rich but the alterations reduce what notes will sound good soloing this next example is
simplicity at its best
D/FAC
G/FAD
C/GBE
I played this without the right hand chords in my left hand which gave me the opportunity to reach for more creative solos try blues scales or pentatonics.
Because now the line had to make up the colors because the chords were just making a simple background.
If your groove is tight sometimes all you need is some nice voiceleading and some simple chords
- Food for thought ....
